Determine the area and shape of the floor to be heated

When planning, you should remember, that no household appliances or furniture without feet should stand on the heated surface. Calorique panels may not be partially covered with baseboards, architectural details or decorative pieces. Covering the heating areas can lead to overheating. It is best to install the heating panels along the length of the room to avoid frequent cuts and line connections. Electrical lines, which possibly are laid over the floor, must be at least 50 mm distance away from the heating foil and connections, while the space between them must be filled with heat insulation material.

The distance between the filmstrip and heat source must be at least 200 mm. Heat sources are, for example, heat pipes, fire place, chimney, oven etc.

Preparing the Calorique® heating panels

Cut the heating film along one of the dotted lines with a pair of scissors. You cannot cut the film in different way. Attach the connector terminals to the prepared foil strips.

Attach the clamps with a pair of pliers, a hammer or a crimping tool. Check the contact rigidity. Insulate the rails from the other side of the strip with a pad of insulation tape from the Calorique Set.

Prepare the electrical cables with a cross-section of at least 1.0 mm2 from the Calorique ® Set.

Crimp the stripped wire end to the connector terminals with a pair of pliers. Isolate the electrical connection with the self-welding tape from the Calorique ® Set.

The heating elements are parallel connected. The maximum length of the heating panel is given on the page with technical data. The maximum total power of the heating strips connected to a thermostat must not exceed 3200W. If the total consumption is higher than 3200 W, we recommend to install an additional electrical circle with its own fuse. The heating elements then are connected with a magnetic switch to the thermostat.

Laying the panels

Cover the subfloor, which should not have any roughness or sharp elements, with the polyethylene film using duct tape. The edges of the foil must overlap by 20 cm. Lay down the thermal foam insulation sheets of 3 mm thickness and fasten them with adhesive tape.

On top of the thermal insulation layer put Calorique heat element with the rails up. With the proper positioning of the heating panels all labels should be legible. Attach the heating foil using tape, furniture nails or staple gun to prevent it from slipping.

ATTENTION! Attach the heating foil by the edges through the transparent strip. The attachment must be no closer than 6.4 mm to the silver bus rails. For the electrical connections, make cut outs in the thermal insulation layer to keep the surface even.

The visual inspection

Visually check the system, the insulation, the contact attachment. Your visual check look for possible traces of damage to the foil strips, which may happen during installation. If a portion of the strip is damaged, it is recommended to replace the entire strip.

Electrical test

The electrical test must be performed via a connecting cable to check the accuracy of the electrical connections. The allowable resistance value for 240 V can be determined by using the following formula:

Upper limit = resistance 63360/installed Watt.

Lower resistance limit = 54720 /installed Watt.

Check the measured value after the execution below.

RESISTANCE

Between high and low resistance limits:

Ok, everything is in order, no further action necessary.

Higher than the upper resistance limits:

Open circuit. Check all connections and repair everything as required.

Zero (0): Short circuit:

Check all cables for damage. Foil strips with damaged power rails must be completely replaced. After any repairs, electrical testing should be performed again. All this work should be carried out most carefully to avoid possible damage to heating elements.

Temperature Sensor

Cut a suitable hole in the insulation layer and attach the temperature sensor about 1-1.2 cm from the heated part of the heating foil.

Connect the heating to the thermostat and turn it on. After a few minutes, the film should be pleasantly war.

Connect the heating to the thermostat and turn it on. After a few minutes, the film should be pleasantly war.

Lay floor covering

Above this, you install the floor covering or an intermediate layer of plywood or particleboards.

Laminate, Parquet, Wooden Board

Place the laminate, parquet, wooden board directly on the heating film according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Enjoy a comfortable warm floor.

Carpet, Linoleum, Tile

Place an intermediate layer of plywood, particleboards, etc. The intermediate layer should be fixed to the floor with screws and even out the final layer. The screws must be secured only through the transparent edge strip of the heating foil. The minimum distance between the screws and the current-conducting elements, including the silver bus bars is 6.4 mm. On top of the intermediate layer, you install the floor covering according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Your floor heating is finished. If no furniture will be placed on the heated surface, then it is possible to put carpet or linoleum directly on the heating film without an intermediate layer.
